Osteopathy is a manual form of therapy that emphasizes the relationship between the structure and function of the human body. This therapy follows a belief in the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate, which is why classically trained Osteopathic Manual Practitioners do not see themselves as healers, but instead as facilitators to health.
Through gentle adjustment of the body, an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner works to stabilize the structure, balance the body, and remove obstructions that restrict the flow of nerves, arteries, veins and lymphatics. Only when the body is balanced, and structures are adjusted to normal, can the body begin self-healing and self-regulating.
Osteopathic Manual Practitioners focus on treating the cause of dysfunction, not the effects/symptoms it creates. Therefore, Osteopathy acts as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medicine.

The osteopathic philosophy embraces the idea of the unity of structure and function through four main principles set out by its founder, Andrew Taylor Still:
1. The body is a unit, and the person represents a combination of body, mind and spirit.
2. The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing and health maintenance.
3. Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.
4. Rational treatment is based on an understanding of these principles: body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy is not covered by OHIP, though may be partially or fully covered by extended health insurance plans. The coverage for each carrier is different; please check your plan to see what coverage is available for this type of service

Katarina is an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. She received her Master in Practice Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences Diploma (M. OMSc) after completing a 4.5 year intensive program at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy.

Before discovering her love of Classical Osteopathy, Katarina’s adventures started in Northern Ontario, where she graduated with honors from the Fire Fighting program at Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology. This kicked off a 15-year career in emergency response that ranges widely from fire fighting and emergency medical response, to ambulance dispatch and emergency communications, to a specialized focus on hazardous material reclamation and environmental cleanup. She then switched from healing bodies to healing souls, sparking a 5-year love affair with specialty coffees. But it was her desire to continue helping others that eventually drew her to the doors of the CAO, and to Classical Osteopathy.

Katarina personally vouches for this manual approach to treatment, having struggled herself to find personalized medical solutions to health problems through traditional allopathic medicine alone. Since she first learned of this gentle, whole-body approach to physical health, she has thrown herself enthusiastically into her practice and is just as excited about your health as you are.

Katarina is the proud proprietor of Level Up Osteopathy and is a member in good standing with the Ontario Osteopathic Association (OOA).
